Things to Know – Visits

• We are a volunteer-based program
• Crisis visits can often be arranged quickly when appropriate
• Most routine visits are scheduled in advance
• We match teams intentionally based on environment, needs, and allergies
• Some requests we cannot fulfill (ex: private parties, commercial promotions)

Things to Know – Volunteers

• All volunteers and dogs are screened for criminal backgrounds, program fit and success
• Joining NLTD takes time—well-behaved dogs are only the starting point
• New dogs should expect to complete training, assessment, and preparation before joining active teams
• There is no immediate “join” option; each team progresses through a structured onboarding process
• We intentionally pace and curate onboarding to each new dog and team to ensure dog enjoyment, safety, readiness, excellence and long-term success
